Finding the right contractor for your heating, cooling, and plumbing needs is important. Many homeowners, though, don’t think about this until their heating or air conditioning system stops working. Ask the contractor for references or customer testimonials. Ask the contractor about their knowledge of Energy Star ratings, rebates, and high-efficiency HVAC systems. Ask the contractor if he or she is a member of state or national HVAC organizations such as the Air Conditioning Contractors of America. Ask the contractor what the fee is for an in-home evaluation or consultation of your HVAC needs. Don’t forget to ask for a free estimate of their service charge to complete the job. If your questions have been answered to your satisfaction, go ahead and schedule that initial appointment. Keep the following in mind when the HVAC contractor arrives at your door: Does the contractor arrive on time? Does he or she provide a courtesy call to remind you of your appointment or notify you if he or she is running late? Does the contractor wear a uniform or wear visible I.D. and a name tag? Does the HVAC contractor listen to your concerns and answers your questions easily? Does the contractor offer your a few options to consider if repair or replacement is needed, especially if budget is a concern? Does the contractor give you a business card and offer to answer any additional questions you may have? These tips and questions can help you find the right contractor for your HVAC system needs.
